What is a mother to do when her only son’s birthday wish is for a Donald Trump Pinata?  La Madre Buena (The Good Mother) is a heartwarming story of a Mexican matriarch torn between politics and fulfilling her son’s desire for his birthday party.  Shot in Mexico with Post-production in London and Sydney, Clift wanted to make sure the Mexican tale a truly international collaboration. The film stars Ariel winner Monica del Carmen (Babel) and four Donald Trump piñatas were made for the film.

The film was the most awarded at the Kinsale Shark Awards this year, scooping five trophies including the Best International New Director for Sarah Clift, before it had even officially launched.  Catalyst worked closely with Clift, Madrefoca and Marshall Street Editors to supervise the sound and music which features a the Mexican folklore track ‘La Llorona’ (The Weeping Woman) sung by Mexican singer Chavela Vargas.  Brendan Woithe and his Assistant Declan Diacono (KLANG) created all of the foley, sound design and final mix.

For the end credits we recorded and re-arranged a Mariachi version on La LLorona  in Mexico with Panoram – keep your eyes peeled for a free download of the track coming soon lamadrebuenafilm.com
